Apr 2009 - Environment Agency raises exemption limit

Until now any company that disposed of more than 150kg of hazardous waste (approx 12 CRT monitors) per annum needed to register with the Environment Agency and pay for a 12 month license costing £18.

As of April 6th 2009 the EA has raised the limit to 500kg (approx 40 CRT monitors) resulting in cost savings for many small to medium businesses. Larger businesses with smaller satellite sites will also benefit from this change.

On the 1 April 2009 new charges came into effect for:

Environmental permitting (EP)
Radioactive Substances Regulation (RAS)
Discharges to Controlled Water (CFD)
EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS

Updated charging schemes for 2009/10 are available and you can access them through the relevant scheme pages. New fact sheets are also available explaining changes that have occurred this year. You can also access the fact sheets through the relevant scheme pages.
